17 June 2008 the PinchukArtCentre presents “Paul McCartney. Paintings” June 13^th 2008

“Paul McCartney. Paintings” exhibition will open in the PinchukArtCentre from 17 June till 13 July. The exhibition presents 41 works by Sir Paul McCartney created from 1988 to 1999. Several works will be exhibited in public for the first time. Paul McCartney’s first ever art exhibition took place in 1999 in Siegen, Germany. This exhibition of McCartney paintings is the first in Eastern Europe.

IRWIN artist group to present East Art Map, at PinchukArtCentres Project Room, from May 20 till June 8, 2008 May 19^th 2008

IRWIN group (Slovenia) will present its communication project East Art Map at PinchukArtCentre’s Project Room (the 5th floor) from May 20 till June 8, 2008. On May 21, 2008, at 18:00, the group members Andrej Savski and Roman Uranek will give a lecture at video-lounge (the 6th floor). Admission is free.

"Oneness" exhibition by Mariko Mori opened in the PinchukArtCentre April 12^th 2008

Introducing the top-notch world artists to Ukraine, the PinchukArtCentre presented a solo exhibition of Mariko Mori, one of the most seminal artists coming out of Japan in last fifty years. It has been the first exhibition of her works in the Central and Eastern Europe ever. The exhibition showcases works created during last 15 years: staged photography, 3-D video and installations. Among them, probably the most notable are Wave UFO (1999-2002), Oneness (2003), Transcirle (2004) and Tom NA H-IU (2005-2006). Also, some Mariko Mori's videos will be displayed in the PinchukArtCentre's video-lounge (5th floor). Exhibition's on the view April 12 through June 15.

The PinchukArtCentre opens new room, Pastime Paradise by Christina Solomukha being the first exhibition to be held therein April 12^th 2008

PinchukArtCentre has opened a new space, the Project Room, to place on show pieces made by young Ukrainian and foreign artists especially for display at the PinchukArtCentre. The first exhibition in the Project Room is “Pastime Paradise” by Christina Solomukha, which is on the view from April 11 through May 11, on the 5th floor of PinchukArtCentre.

Mariko Mori arrives to Ukraine March 31^th 2008

Today, March 31 2008, Mariko Mori, one of the most notable figures in Japan’s art world, has arrived to Kiev for preparing her first ever in Central and Eastern Europe personal exhibition "Oneness", to be held since April 12, at the PinchukArtCentre.

PinchukArtCentre presents REFLECTION VIDEO PROGRAM February 21^th 2008

PinchukArtCentre presents the REFLECTION Video program, a screening of 5 videos by 5 young artists. Videos by Susanne Burner (ONHE TITEL, 2003), Mircea Cantor (The Landscape is changing, 2004), Alex Cecchetti/Christian Frosi (Crossing the Millau bridge 2005), Jonathan Monk (Nudes descending the stairs, 2007) and Salla Tykka (Zoo, 2006) will be presented during this program.

Juergen Teller opens a personal exhibition “Ukraine” in NYC February 8^th 2008

February 7th one of the leading representatives of contemporary art photographer Juergen Teller opens a new personal exhibition “Ukraine” in New York’s Lehmann Maupin Gallery.

52nd Venice Biennale is one of the most visited for the exhibition history November 29^th 2007

319,332 visitors at the 52nd International Art Exhibition: best result in the past twenty-five years.
The 52nd International Art Exhibition, first and last stop of the Grand Tour 2007, closed yesterday, November 21st , with an outstanding result in terms of visitors: 319,322 people attended this year’s exhibition within its 165 days. This has been the most attended Biennale of the past twenty-five years and one of the most visited in the whole history of the exhibition.

PinchukArtCentre presents the lecture and screening about the City and the modernism architecture in Louidgi Beltrame and Sarah Morris works. The French artist Louidgi Beltrame talks about his various films and drawing project around “icons” cities such as Brasilia and Chandigarh. Between fiction and reality, memory and utopia, Louidgi Beltrame proposes a script about urbanism, architecture and the landscape in the heart of the modernity.

Ukrainians meet young contemporary art of Japan November 19^th 2007

Within the framework of the exhibition REFLECTION on the November 15th PinchukArtCentre presented a lecture delivered by Japanese art-critic and curator Akiko Miki about development of the contemporary art of Japan during last decade and Takashi Murakami influence on the works of young generation of Japanese artists.

PinchukArtCentre presents the lecture of the Japanese art critic and curator Akiko Miki, who will talk about the last ten years’ development in Japanese contemporary art and the impact of Takashi Murakami’s works on the new generation of artists. Selected videos by Takashi Murakami and young Japanese artists will be represented during the presentation – including a.o Koki Tanaka, Zon Ito and Ryoko Aoki, Hiraki Sawa, Meiwa Denki and Aya Takano.

A reputable British magazine ArtReview that recently announced the 2007 list of the artworld’s 100 most influential people also named probable listees of the next year. The magazine is likely to include into the list the founder of PinchukArtCentre, Victor Pinchuk.

In last 10 days more than 20 thousand people have visited REFLECTION exhibition, October 17^th 2007

More than 20 thousand people have visited REFLECTION exhibition from its opening day October 6 2007. One of the most popular exhibit items at Reflection exhibition has become an installation titled "Blind Light" made by Turner Prize winner (1994) Antony Gormley. In Britain a fascinating structure made out of glass, metal and steam was visited by 210 000 persons.

Annual ArtReview Power 100 ranking issued, October 15^th 2007

ArtReview magazine has published this year's highly anticipated list of the artworld’s 100 most powerful people. The first four positions in 2007 Power 100 list have not been changed as compared to the last year's ranking. The artist who holds the highest position within the list of the artworld’s 100 most powerful people is Damien Hirst (6th place). All in all the top twenty of the ranking include, apart from Hirst, only two artists - Jeff Koons (13th place) and Richard Serra (19th place).

Nineteen Ukrainians have visited the " Olympic Games of the Art World" in Venice, August 21^st 2007

The winners of "Art-Summer in Venice with PinchukArtCentre" Quiz Program have returned to Ukraine from the "Olympic Games of the Art World". During three-day tour around Venice, nineteen quiz winners accompanied by a curator visited the main exhibition of the 52nd Venice Biennale in Arsenal, national pavilions of different countries located at the central alley of the Giardini and the Ukrainian Pavilion in Palazzo Papadopoli represented by PinchukArtCentre. The tour itinerary also included walking and bout tours around the old part of Venice.

Exhibition of photos from the Elton John’s collection closed, August 14^th 2007

Exhibition "An Instinctive Eye: A Selection of Contemporary Photographs from the Sir Elton John Collection" closed on August 12. It was working June 16 through August 12, 2007 with a number of visitors totaling more than 45 thousands.

President of the Louvre visited PinchukArtCentre, July 26^th 2007

During his visit to Kiev, Henri Loyrette, the President of the Louvre Museum (Henry Loyrette, president directeur general du Musee du Louvre), visited the PinchukArtCentre. After getting acquainted with the current exhibition “An Instinctive Eye: A Selection of Contemporary Photographs from the Sir Elton John Collection” a working meeting took place, in which participated Thomas Eymond-Laritaz, President of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Claire Staebler, art-director of the PinchukArtCentre and Aicha Kherroubi, cultural attache of the embassy of France in Ukraine. The issues of further collaboration, and current state of contemporary art in Ukraine were discussed at the meeting.

On the occasion of the exhibition “An Instinctive Eye: A Selection of Contemporary Photographs from the Sir Elton John Collection” the PinchukArtCentre invites two experts on contemporary art and photography to give a lecture and comments on this Photography Collection. Special guests are Andre Rouille, a teacher, writer and curator from Paris, who has been working and making researches for many years in the field of photography and Mikhail Sidlin, a Russian art-critic, curator and teacher of photography history at the International School of Photography and Multimedia named after A. Rodchenko.

The Ukrainian exhibition generates considerable excitement at Venice Biennale, June 8^th 2007

Around 500 people visited DJ-party on the occasion of the Ukrainian pavilion opening in Palazzo Papodopoli at the 52nd Venice Biennale. Total number of those who wanted to join the event late at night on June 7, was trice as much – about 1500 people. Such a rush of visitors during presentation day is usually considered to be real success at Venice Biennale. As a rule, before Biennale's official opening, exhibitions are visited by up to 200 people.

“An Instinctive Eye: A Selection of Contemporary Photographs from the Sir Elton John Collection” exhibition will be open from June 16 until August 12 2007 in PinchukArtCentre.

A Survey of Vik Muniz is over, May 21^th 2007

On the May 20 the first solo exhibition of the Brazilian artist and photographer Vik Muniz “Vik Muniz: A survey” has closed. At his first in the Eastern Europe solo exhibition, the Brazilian artist presented specially selected works which were created in 1993-2007. Ukrainians were the first who could see the latest works of Muniz, “Face of the Moon” and “Atlas”.

On Thursday, May 10, at 19:00 in PinchukArtCentr a lecture is to be delivered by the artists, Petro Bevza (Ukraine) and Yaroslav Kozhyara (Poland) whose projects have been well-known within land art genre.

Land art came to prominence in the late 1960s and 1970s when artists found themselves in want of real space and initiated a radical change of artistic vehicles. They started to apply a form of art which uses water, rocks, sand, leaves, ice or snow, sun rays, lightning. A first ploughed furrow, a path trod out across a lawn may be considered the germ of this art movement... Thirty odd years ago the land art combined artists’ urge towards aesthetic landscape development with a need to overstep the limits of conventional cultural institutions i.e. galleries and exhibition halls.

Juergen Teller, world-known photographer, is conducting shooting in Kyiv within the framework of 52-nd International Art Exhibition.

The Centre for Contemporary Art PinchukArtCentre (Kyiv, Ukraine) presented a personal exhibition of the world famous Brazilian artist and photographer Vik Muniz “Vik Muniz: A Survey”. The works of the artist were exhibited in the largest museums of the world and at the most prestigious exhibitions of the last decade. At press-conference on the occasion of presentation the president of PinchukArtCentre Peter Doroshenko noticed, that it is the first exhibition of Vik Muniz to be seen in the Eastern Europe.

GENERATIONS.UsA leaves PinchukArtCentre

The dismantling of GENERATIONS.UsA exhibition started on March 20. Now the preparation for the next exhibition to be opened in April is underway.

The exhibition of pictures by young Ukrainian and American artists excited much interest both among the Ukrainian visitors, and foreign guests of Kiev. Over 40 000 persons attended the exhibition in three months.

About 5.5 Thousand People Have Visited GENERATIONS.UsA Over the Three first Days of the Exhibition

About 5.5 thousand people visited the exhibition GENERATIONS.UsA presented by PinchukArtCentre from the 19th to the 21st of January. According to the organizers of the exhibition, 80% of the visitors are young people. “The high interest of the youth is normal, since GENERATIONS.UsA is an exhibition of young American and Ukrainian artists”, Olexandre Soloviov, one of the curators of the exhibition, said. “On the other hand, PinchukArtCentre is getting more and more popular, and in particular thanks to the interest of the Ukrainian and international media that cover on important cultural events in Ukraine’s life towards this project. And finally, the opening of the exhibition concurred with the days off. And as a rule, these are Saturdays and Sundays when there are the visit peaks”.

On the 19th of January 2007, at 12:00, PinchukArtCentre presented the exhibition GENERATIONS.UsA– a new project of young Ukrainian and American artists.
The opening ceremony started with “unwrapping of a huge gift” - an installation, created by a noted Ukrainian artist Iliya Chichkan by the PinchukArtCentre facade.
GENERATIONS.UsA is the first exhibition that brings together in one place works of young artists from Ukraine (UA) and the United States of America (USA).
